| 5.7 to 6.1 cam swap/upgrade - budget build |
|
|
Well thanks to John (sinistr) I'm on my way to upgrading to a 6.1L cam in my 5.7 Hemi on budget build. John picked up a cam from a SRT Charger which was in good shape and we made the deal last night, along with the 6.1 intake & exhaust pushrods, 8 roller lifters & 2 retainers. Since I'm tight with $$$'s with the little guys at home, the 6.1 upgrade is going to save me more than several hundered $'s than going with a stage 1 aftermarket cam.
Next I'm going to pick up a Crower Timing Chain, 6.1 valve springs, a 6.1 oil pump, & catch can along with any gaskets that may need replacing. I gotta credit John on his workmanship and great knowledge of the engine internals in helping me with this project.
Also, thinking of getting the magnaflow mid-pipes w/ hi-flow cats and dynomax bullet mufflers. Love they way they sound on your car John! Anyways, I'll be collecting the parts and then will have them installed, with a tune, hopefully by July. Then, by August maybe I'll have the red monster out on the track
I'll keep you guys updated.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I was pretty jacked up when seeing all the rides at Maple Grove both in car show & racing form. So, I figured why not start compiling parts and when John put out that he was looking to sell the 6.1 cam, I new I was getting the best bang for the buck. 2006 Charger R/T, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl (w/ White Racing Stripes), Airaid CAI, JBA Shorty Headers, HHP hi-flow cats, SLP LM1 catback, Diablosport Predator tune by HHP (Level 2), w/ 20" American Racing Dale Jr. Killers chrome wheels, Hawk Performance Brakes, PowerSlot rotors, and 255/45/R20 Toyo Proxes. |

Speaking of fuel rails, I have a set of brand new in the box billet fuel rails by CPR (Creative Performance Racing). I would love to put these on my Hemi but I can't mess with the Hurst build, It will degrade the car. These are some really nice machined rails with some racey looking engraving. The MSRP is $280. I will entertain any offer over $150 but the rails will ultimately go to the highest bidder. I will donate half of what I get for the rails to our Club so lets be generous with your bidding because it will go toward our club's development. Here is a link to CPR's website. for these rails. There's lots of pictures and additional performance info for these rails and other products on their website. It looks like they sell quite a few items for the 5.7 and 6.1 Hemi bullets. Creative Performance Racing
For reference here is a link to a company that sells these rails for $240 a pair. lethalperformance

Hey Chuck, I wasnt sure about the fuel rails at this point. I only have certian $'s allocated and want to make sure to get the necessary items for cam swap 1st. But, down the road it may be option. Hey Marko You motivated me to start buying my upgrades for the engine now so I can put them on in the winter. Now I have to work on a budget on what I want and what I need. I am going to try and see Josh before chrysler nats for my tune. good luck with everything. |
